NFC South 2012 Prediction

Atlanta Falcons 11 - 5

The Atlanta Falcons should win the division this year because they will be better coached on defense. Mike Nolan has the experience to make the correct week to week adjustments to win more games. With three good cornerbacks, Brent Grimes, Asanta Samuel, and Dunta Robinson, they should be able to control the Saints pass attack.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9 - 7

My surprise pick is Tampa Bay finishing at 9 - 7. This team was a wreck last year. Not sure what happen with the coaching of Raheem Morris but he lost that team in the worst of ways. With a new coaching staff and a lot of good veteran players I think Tampa will overachieve this year. Look for QB Josh Freeman to have a good year. WR’s Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams, and TE Dallas Clark will help him to look good.

New Orleans Saints 8 - 8

I’m not afraid to give my honest opinion. We will find out how valuable a head coach is during a 16 game season. With Sean Peyton I would give them a 12 - 4 prediction. Now to make my point they will lose 4 games because of him not being there putting their record at 8 - 8. There’s only so much that team leader and star QB Drew Brees can do.

Carolina Panthers 7 - 9

I want to give them a better prediction but when I look at Carolina play I feel like something is missing. They got lucky last year by getting a great year out of star WR Steve Smith. He was huge! I can’t see him doing that again and with the 2nd - 4th wide receiver on the roster being a bunch of no names I think this will frustrate the Panthers all year. They need Cam’s #1 WR for the future. With a 7 - 9 finish or worse they will be looking to get the best WR in the 2013 NFL draft.

NFC North 2012 Prediction

Chicago Bears 13 - 3

The Bears are the team to beat in the NFC. Their explosive offense is hard to figure out. With unnamable Wrs and two solid Rbs they will be hard to stop on offense. If you don’t get a 1st down on 1st or 2nd down it will be mighty hard to get one on 3rd down with Julius Peppers coming off the edge.

Detroit Lions 10 - 6

Matthew Stafford continues to throw the ball all over the place. Calvin Johnson breaks the Madden curse all year until the 1st game of the playoffs. L

Green Bay Packers 8 - 8

No hunger keeps the Packers sliding to the bottom of the pack in the NFC North. Their defense can’t stop a high school running back from scoring a touchdown. I predict they will lose in shootouts all year long.

Minnesota Vikings 6 - 10

Something is missing here. The Vikings look like they are a good team on the field but on paper they keep losing. The bottom line will be the coach. Christian Ponder will prove that he’s their QB for at least two more years.

NFC East 2012 Prediction

New York Giants 12 - 4

The Giants will continue to be hot at the beginning of the season. They may go undefeated through 7 - 10 games. I can see them experiencing the same thing Green Bay experienced last year. Being over confident will hurt them in the playoffs. A hungrier team will put an end to the Giants run.

Dallas Cowboys 10 - 6

A rocky start for the Cowboys will help them build character. They will have calls go their way this year. I believe that 10 - 6 will be good enough to get them into the playoffs. If this team gets the wheels rolling they could be special in the playoffs. Having Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne at CB will make DeMarcus Ware look even better and the pass rush may be on the Giants level.

Philadelphia Eagles 8 - 8

My prediction would be different if they had a good back-up quarterback. It's so hard for me to believe that Michael Vick will make it 16 games with his style of play. On a scale of 1 - 10 I’ll give Vick a 4 as a leader. After him I can’t say that there’s another leader on the team. It’s like the whole team is on Vick’s back. I wish Vick good health but 8-8 is the best that I can give the Eagles.

Washington Redskins 5 - 12

I’m not a fan of Mike Shanahan. I think that John Elway made him who he is. Robert Griffin III will need some time to learn the NFL game. I believe that he has all the skills in the world but he is no Cam Newton and the Panthers went 6 - 10 with one of the best rookie Qbs ever.

Quick Recap and Thoughts of NFL Preseason Week One

The Good

The #1 overall pick Andrew Luck lived up to the hype that we have all been hearing about.

Robert Griffin III looked good in his first NFL action connecting with Pierre Garcon for a TD pass. Looks like the Washington Redskins have their QB for the future.

The Kansas City Chiefs is my top sleepers team thus far. With Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis they are looking to have a great running game.

Peyton Manning looks to continue doing what he has done throughout his career with the Denver Broncos. In the little time that he did play he looked like the old Peyton Manning to me.

Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons might finish the season as the best WR in the NFL.

The Cowboys defense was all over the place. If CB Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr live up to the hype that defense will be a force.

The Denver Broncos defense looks to be even better than last year.

Russell Wilson looked like the best quarterback in the 1st Seattle Seahawks game. Matt Flynn just looked ok to me. Looks like this is going to turn out to be a good QB competition.

The 2011-12 Super Bowl New York Giants 1st team offense looks ready to defend their championship.

The Bad

The Jets offense looked very bad and they don’t really have any playmakers unless you are a believer in Tim Tebow.

The Oakland Raiders are full of players with speed on offense but can’t seem to catch very well.

Is the Baltimore Raven defense too old to stop anyone?

Will it be the same old story in Dallas. With all the inexperienced offensive linemen Tony Romo will be at risk on every snap.

Arizona Cardinals look like they still have issues at the quarterback spot.

I didn’t see any Jeff Fisher effect on the St Louis Rams. They looked like a rookie team.

Forget Tim Tebow and the New York Jets.

Let's talk about the Kansas City Chiefs, specifically their backfield. Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis are both healthy. Both played in the Chiefs first preseason game. I'm not sure if many have overlooked what Kansas City did by bringing Hillis into the mix. Last year in Cleveland he had contract issues and that effected his play on the field. Not being prepared once the season started caused him to get injured a lot. Now he gets a fresh start in Kansas City and I believe that he's going to make defenders pay. Now he's a great change of pace back so he won't be asked to carry the load like he did when he played for the Browns. Jamaal Charles got hurt in the first regular season game last year. He has had more than enough time to heal. Him playing in the first preseason game is a great sign for the Chiefs.

Enough with the Tim Tebow and NY Jets talk. After seeing them in the first preseason game there isn't much to talk about with that team. Forget that they are in a "big market". Real football fans want to talk about real football and not the drama within the game all the time. I love the game and I like what the Kansas City Chiefs have done so I thought that this was worth pointing out!

Quick Recap of Preseason Football: Friday August 11, 2012

The Good

Tampa Bay Bucs looks to have some focus as their 1st team offense came out looking pretty good. LeGarrette Blount scores a TD. The New York Giants offense came out rolling. Eli Manning connecting 4-8 for 60 yards hits Victor Cruz for a nice 28 yard gain.  Jacksonville Jaguar's Blaine Gabbert looks like the offseason helped his game. He went 5-10 with a TD pass against the tough NY Giants defense.  The Kansas Chiefs may have the best backfield in the league. Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis looks great. Both are healthy.

Alex Smith and the 49ers offense came out and scored a touchdown on a 12 play 84 yard drive.

The Cincinnati defense was all over the place stopping the New York Jets from getting into the end zone for the entire game.
The Bad
The New York Jets offensive line did not look good. Mark Sanchez did not have much time to find a receiver. Tim Tebow didn't look any better.

The Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden didn't look good going 3-9 with a interception. Colt McCoy may not have anything to worry about.
Detroit Lion's Matthew Stafford needs to settle down. He threw a INT and didn't score while in the game.

Not sure what's up with Kevin Kolb. He went 1-5 for 21yards. Sacked and just looked bad for a guy who got a paid like he did.
Minnesota Viking's offense didn't score a touchdown. They need Adrian Peterson back or they will struggle.

Quick Recap of Preseason Football: Thursday August 9, 2012

The Good

Julio Jones for the Atlanta Falcons was a beast 6 catches, 109 yards, and 1 TD

Robert Griffin III looked good in his first NFL action connecting with Pierre Garcon for a TD pass.

Phillip Rivers connects with Antonio Gates for a TD.

Peyton Manning looked good but didn’t connect for a TD.

Ben Roethlisberger went 7 - 8 looking tough as always.

Denver Broncos defense picked up from where they left off last year looking tough.
The Bad
Michael Vick bangs his fingers on another players helmet and the Eagles offense looks out of sync.

Tom Brady’s offensive line looked a mess making the New England Patriots offense look out of sync.

Jay Culter didn’t start for the Chicago Bears while Jason Campbell looks to be a decent back-up QB

Baltimore’s 1st team offense couldn’t get anything going against the Falcons.
Buffalo Bills couldn’t find the end zone.

The Chargers lost starting running back Ryan Mathews after he broke his clavicle on his first carry of the preseason. He's scheduled to have surgery on Friday and is expected to be out 4-to-6 weeks.

Can Michael VIck make it 16 games?

If the Philadelphia Eagles want to make it to the playoffs they have to have Michael Vick as close to 100% for the entire season.  A 50% Mike Vick isn't good enough. The Michael Vick of 2010-2011 is what the Eagles need. It's going to be interesting seeing if Vick can sit in the pocket and pick defenses apart like he did in 2010-11. It was so exciting seeing him prove people wrong by being a accurate quarterback. His long balls to Desean Jackson were amazing to see. After the tape got out on Vick defenses figured out how to stop the deep ball. Vick still wasn't mature and patient enough to take what defenses would allow.  We all know what Michael Vick does when he doesn't have patience, he RUNS! If you look at Vick he looks like he has a small frame. The players in the game compared to those that were in the game when he first came in to the league are bigger, faster and stronger. He started in the NFC South where the defenses aren't no where close to being as good as the defenses in the NFC East are now. The pass rushers that the Giants have alone are deadly enough to get Vick injured on any given play. Demarcus Ware with the Cowboys surely will cause Vick to lose patience and run without making all his check downs.

Personally I can't see him staying healthy the whole season. I wish all players could play without getting hurt but we know that's not possible in the contact sport of football. As we enter another season football fans can't help but keep an eye on the Eagles. Vick stated that he wants to win it all for Coach Reid. After last years terrible start for the Eagles I'm wondering do they have the leadership on the field that has what it takes to do the necessary things to win it all!

Fantasy Advice: When to draft?

Don't do your fantasy draft until after week 3 of the preseason. Star players do tend to get hurt and you don't want to be stuck with a player that tears an ACL and is done for the season. In the meanwhile be patient, do your homework, and look for the unknown players that may be starting for the 1st time.  You have rookies and players that are on the rise that will be overlooked by inexperienced fantasy players. I remember when Arian Foster and Miles Austin came out of nowhere to be huge fantasy players. Last year Fred Jackson of the Buffalo Bills was quiet and productive. At the quarterbacks spot you usually have to have a big name to have a good team. There are usually one or two rookie QBs that will have better than normal years so don't be afraid to take them in the 5th - 7th round. In my last year draft Cam Newton was smiling at me in the next to final round. It will be a long year if you end up with a bad QB.

Enjoy the preseason and I hope that you find a diamond in the rough! If you have some diamond in a rought players in mind please feel free to comment and share.

After watching Curtis Martin's Hall of Fame speech I was interested in seeing how me made it to the HOF. His speech was great and his stats are very impressive. I think he deserves being in the Hall of Fame!
